Brat Bhríde Blanket – Irish Crafts

Inspired by the Goddess Brigid, this beautifully crafted blanket combines timeless elegance and comfort.

When Brigid met the King of Leinster to ask for land, she told him that she only needed the amount her cloak would cover.  The king agreed. As Brigid placed her cloak on the ground it expanded covering the beautiful green land. This blanket represents the rich green grass covered by her cloak.

This blanket pays homage to Brigid and symbolises protection, hope and the nurturing spirit of the Goddess herself. It is made with a combination of green shades and is edged with a boarder.

A Brat Bhríde is a piece of cloth that is traditionally left outside on the eve of St. Brigid’s Day. It is said that Brigid blesses the cloth with healing and protective powers. It is then used for healing purposes throughout the year.  This blanket was placed outside on Brigid’s eve to embody this wonderful ancient tradition and bring extra comfort.

This is truly one of a kind as I have only made one and cannot make more as the wool is no longer available.

The blanket is measures approx. 120cm x 120cm
Please be careful with pet paws as claws can tear stitches
Made from vegan wool
Wash on cool on its own or hand wash, do not tumble dry or place on direct heat, do not iron
